Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)

Addressing Underground Storage Tanks

Underground storage tanks (USTs) are often used to store fuel for homes heated with fuel oil. USTs pose a potential environmental liability on your property. Rust and corrosion leave them prone to leaks and oil spills and, being underground, it’s impossible to know their condition without an appropriate inspection.

If you decide to sell your home, the removal of underground oil tanks will greatly improve the marketability of your home and speed the sale process by removing the stigma often associated with USTs. If removal is not an option due to poor access (e.g., under a foundation, footing, deck, or building addition), ESA will provide options for closing the storage tank in place.

Call ESA to speak to their residential-friendly and NJDEP-experienced staff. ESA’s site investigation team has more than 30 years of experience conducting residential and commercial property inspections for underground storage tanks, removal of USTs, and the remediation and site closure of leaking USTs. ESA’s qualified and experienced senior staff can speak with you and help you identify the options before the tank becomes a potential pollution liability, or if the oil tank is known to be leaking.
