CEO Stephen Fauer marks the occasion of ESA\u2019s 30th<\/sup> year in\nbusiness by sharing some of the life lessons he has accumulated over the years.\nWe think you\u2019ll enjoy Stephen\u2019s sometimes brash, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, always\nhonest perspective on what he believes it takes to be successful \u2013 and happy \u2013\nin business and in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Clients\ndon\u2019t like surprises. Communicate.<\/li>
  2. Always\nadvocate for the best interests of your client.<\/li>
  3. Everyone\nis entitled to make a profit.<\/li>
  4. Honesty\nis unequivocal and paramount.<\/li>
  5. Listen.<\/li>
  6. Give\nback. Donating money is nice, but donating your time is worth more.<\/li>
  7. No\none likes to be sold to, but everyone likes to buy.<\/li>
  8. Ask\nopen-ended questions.<\/li>
  9. Never\nask, \u201cHow are you?\u201d You\u2019ll never get a straight answer. Nor do you want it.<\/li>
  10. Boldly\nand confidently ask to be paid what you\u2019re owed.<\/li>
  11. Provide\ngreat service. Be responsive. Deliver results.<\/li>
  12. People\nwant to work with successful people.<\/li>
  13. Questions\ndeserve answers. Say nothing until the client answers.<\/li>
  14. Individuals\nwho shop price exclusively will rarely be persuaded by other factors. Don\u2019t\nwaste your breath.<\/li>
  15. Use\ncaution in dealing with solicitors. Know where your money goes.<\/li>
  16. Expect\nnothing in return for your kindness.<\/li>
  17. Say\nwhat you do. Do what you say.<\/li>
  18. The\ngrass is always browner.<\/li>
  19. If\nyou do what you love, you will love what you do.<\/li>
  20. Being\npolite costs nothing and reaps incalculable benefits.<\/li>
  21. People\noften compliment me on my success, but no one ever explains how they define it.<\/li>
  22. People\nhire people they like.<\/li>
  23. Be\nhumble. <\/li>
  24. Be\ngrateful, even when you lose. <\/li>
  25. Thank\npeople when they hire you. Be sure the quality of your work justifies their\nchoice.<\/li>
  26. Help\npeople who are just starting out.<\/li>
  27. Treat\nyour employees with dignity and respect. Be the kind of boss you would want to\nwork for.<\/li>
  28. Be\nslow to hire and quick to fire.<\/li>
  29. No\nmatter how highly you regard yourself, you didn\u2019t become successful on your own.\nBe sure to acknowledge those who helped you along the way.<\/li>
