Addressing Underground Storage Tanks
Underground storage tanks (USTs) are often used to store fuel for buildings heated with fuel oil. USTs pose a potential environmental liability on your property. Rust and corrosion leave them prone to leaks and oil spills and, being underground, it’s impossible to know their condition without an appropriate inspection.
If you decide to sell your property, the removal of underground oil tanks will greatly improve its marketability and speed the sale process by removing the stigma often associated with USTs. If removal is not an option due to poor access (e.g., under a foundation, footing, deck, or building addition), ESA will provide options for closing the storage tank in place.
Call ESA to speak to our friendly and NJDEP-experienced staff. ESA’s site investigation team has more than 30 years of experience conducting property inspections for underground storage tanks, removal of USTs, and the remediation and site closure of leaking USTs. ESA’s qualified and experienced senior staff can speak with you and help you identify the options before the tank becomes a potential pollution liability, or if the oil tank is known to be leaking.
